Originally completed in 2006, Genuine Borneo Sphinx languished in obscurity for several weeks before slithering swiftly into oblivion a short time later. Fortunately, the A&R department at Owl Plates records is nothing if not diligent, and – with their appetite for microscopically small lo-fi bands from the UK – staff were extremely quick to uncover this exquisite, enthralling gem of an album. Many other labels would doubtless have taken quite a while to locate such an apparently insignificant title. Owl Plates, by contrast, spent a mere five years.

As with the previous Full Crumb compilation album (A Well-Aimed Blow to the Thorax), Genuine Borneo Sphinx is a cunning mixture of the electric/acoustic, loud/quiet, and vindictive/amiable. Fidelity levels span mid thru dire.

And why not treat yourself to a real, physical release (constructed entirely from actual matter, including electrons, neutrons and other key particles)! The CD version of Genuine Borneo Sphinx is completely handmade and consists of full colour artwork, “gatefold” sleeve, and holographic eye lyric booklet with authenticator thumb-print and numbered back cover.
